From Darkness to Light: The Gospel Testimony of Neeza Powers

“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23).

Every generation needs living testimonies of God’s saving grace—evidence that Jesus still breaks chains, rescues the enslaved, and makes new life possible. One such profound testimony is that of Neeza Powers (short for Ebenezer, meaning “stone of help”—a fitting picture of God’s grace revealed in his life). Once lost in the delusion of transgender ideology, he now stands as a radiant new creation in Christ.

This is not merely a personal saga—it is a declaration of God’s glory and a clarion call to the Church to rejoice in grace, stand firm in truth, and pursue holiness together.

Ensnared by Deception—From Age 16

Neeza’s struggle began early. He began his transition to living as a transgender woman at the young age of 16, highlighting the tragic reality that gender ideology does indeed ensnare our children in their most vulnerable years. This isn’t a fringe concern—it’s a present danger facing youth today.

For over a decade, he adopted the name Nicole and lived under this false identity. But as Scripture warns: “You were dead in your trespasses… following the course of this world” (Ephesians 2:1–3). That hopeless trajectory is, at its core, the universal story of sin’s deception.

Encountering the Living Christ

Everything changed on a cold March afternoon in Vermont. In that moment of clarity, Neeza felt the crushing weight of deception lift, replaced by the liberating conviction of truth. As he described it, an “icicle broke off from a frozen waterfall… and it just woke up every cell in my body,” confirming his path forward as a man in Christ.

No amount of affirmation, hormones, or external change could bring the freedom he found in that encounter, where Christ offered forgiveness, healing, and reconciliation. In that moment, 2 Corinthians 5:17 became real to him: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” The identity of Nicole fell away; Neeza—fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)—emerged.

A Witness to the World

Today, Neeza shares his journey courageously across platforms, exposing the emptiness of gender ideology and pointing to the fullness of Christ.

On Instagram, he invites followers with messages to “Get outside, move your body, and seek the Lord!” On TikTok, under the username @dreamroulette, he reaches over 200,000 followers with similar truths. He’s also shared deeply personal moments—like the emotional “detransitioning story time” with his parents, reminding us of the heartbreaking and beautiful realities behind the screen.

He’s been featured in heartfelt interviews, too. For example, in a detailed profile with IW Features, he explained the spiritual awakening he experienced in Vermont and the cost of leaving behind public approval.

And in a raw, YouTube interview titled Why He De-Transitioned 62 Days Ago, he opens his heart about the aftermath of choosing Christ over ideology.

How the Church Should Respond

As the body of Christ, we must do more than observe Neeza’s story from afar. We are called to:

Pray for his perseverance—that he may be shielded against spiritual attacks and remain steadfast in faith. Pray for his growth—that he continues to be grounded in Scripture, fellowshipped in sound doctrine, and shepherded well. Pray for his witness—that God would use him to draw many out of darkness and into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9).

We must also encourage him lovingly: send words of brotherly affirmation, celebrate God’s work in his life, and remind him that he is not alone in this journey.

His Story—and Ours

Neeza’s testimony is powerful—but it is also common to all Christians. Every one of us was once bound by sin, bought by Christ’s blood, and called into freedom. As Paul writes:

“You have put off the old self and have put on the new self” (Colossians 3:9–10).

Neeza’s story mirrors the call we all share: die to self, resist sin, and become more like Christ through daily surrender.

Mortifying Sin and Living in Glory

“Be killing sin, or it will be killing you,” said John Owen—a reminder that sanctification is a violent, daily battle.

The Christian life is not a one-time event but a daily dying and rising. Scripture assures us:

“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another” (2 Corinthians 3:18).

Neeza’s life is a testimony to this ongoing work of grace—one that each believer is invited into, regardless of past, identity, or mistake.

To God Alone Be the Glory

Neeza (“Ebenezer”) Powers’ story is dramatic and deeply moved—but it shines most brightly as a portrait of God’s grace, power, and redemptive purpose. As we celebrate his testimony, let us also embrace our own: crucifying the old self, being renewed daily, and pointing the world to the only name under heaven by which we are saved—Jesus Christ.

“To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood… to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” (Revelation 1:5–6)
